English Premier League

The English Premier League is the first division football league in England. It used the name Premier League in 1992, and is considered the highest level in English football. The league consists of 20 teams. The league begins in August and ends in May, and each team plays 38 matches, for a total of 380 matches per season. Most matches are played on Saturdays and Sundays, but a small number of matches are played during midweek evenings.

The Premier League was formed on 20 February 1992, which replaced the English Professional League for the 1992–93 season. This historic step means changing the system of a tournament that has lasted 104 years and changing its system, which contains a four-tier league. This step was to strengthen football in England after suffering in the mid-eighties from weak financial capabilities and the problems of English football hooligans.


The first meeting to sign the tournament charter took place on July 17, 1991.
